Minds of BCG

Education Projects

From the Minds of Barbara and Craig Geoff, we design education projects that challenge convention, centre compassion and context-sensitive. Our education work bridges clinical expertise, lived experience, and emerging technology.

Queer Affirming Palliative Care Education Initiative (QAPCE)

In collaboration with Prof. JoAn Stanek (University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill) the QAPCE Initiative aims to transform how queer-affirming principles are taught and practised in palliative care. Craig Geoff and JoAn completed and validated an educational framework to teach affirming care principles in postgraduate training initiatives

Under this stream, Craig Geoff offers a workshop introducing the foundations of queer-affirming palliative care. This is available in person or online

TelePal Innovation Initiative

The Telepal Innovation initiative exists as a means to expand access to palliative care in difficult-to-reach areas. This is currently located in the South African context only and is focused on private sector palliative care.

Under this stream, Barbara and Craig Geoff offer an in-person workshop teaching the basic principles of virtual palliative care practice.

Tech-Integrated Palliative Care Education

In his role as lecturer at the University of Cape Town, Craig Geoff is considering the benefits and drawbacks of developing values-sensitive, tech-integrated education aids for higher education. Craig Geoff has experimented with, and is currently in the process of, validating how artificial intelligence and technology can enhance health care worker education. These tools are designed to equip educators and learners to engage with innovation in health professions education.

Currently, this project is still in its infancy. Short workshops built around specific problems can be requested online or in person with Craig Geoff.

Education Projects

Reimagining how we teach care — inclusive, connected, and future-focused.

From the Minds of Barbara and Craig Geoff, we design education projects that challenge convention, centre compassion and are located in the South African health care context. Our education work bridges clinical expertise, lived experience, and emerging technology — helping healthcare professionals learn, reflect, and grow in ways that strengthen both person-centred care, community and the skills professional development of health care providers in the palliative space.

QPCE — Queer Affirming Palliative Care Education Initiative

In collaboration with Prof. JoAn Stanek (University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill) and Prof. Kimberly Acquaviva (University of Virginia School of Nursing), the QPCE Initiative aims to transform how queer-affirming principles are taught and practised in palliative care.
Under this imagination engine, our education projects include:

  • A workshop introducing the foundations of queer-affirming palliative care is available in person or online
  • The development of an educational framework and implementation guides to embed affirming care across training programmes

TelePal Innovation Initiative

The Telepal Innovation initiative exists as a means to expand access to palliative care in difficult-to-reach areas. This is currently located in the South African context only and is focused on private sector palliative care.

Projects include:

  • Introduction to TelePal is available as a workshop (ideal for conferences) or our modular course on virtual palliative care (currently in development; this will be available online). The course explores how practitioners can provide high-quality, person-centred palliative care through digital platforms, with practical tools for ethical and effective remote practice.
  • A broader Introduction to Virtual Health Principles is also available as a workshop and as a modular course (in development, this will be available online)

Tech-Integrated Palliative Care Education

In his role as lecturer at the University of Cape Town, Craig Geoff is considering the benefits and drawbacks of developing values-sensitive, tech-integrated education aids for higher education. Craig Geoff has experimented with and is currently in the process of validating how artificial intelligence and technology can enhance health care worker education. These tools are designed to equip educators and learners to engage with innovation in education and ultimately, health care.

Currently, this project is still in its infancy

  • Short workshops built around specific problems can be requested online or in person with Craig Geoff
